Part-time employment...better than nothing!

Today I was offered and accepted a job at Easter Seals Colorado Stroke Program as a Rehabilitation Aid. I will I work right next to a Physical, Occupational, Recreation, and Speech therapist!!! We work with stroke and brain injury patients...so EXCITING! I have always wanted to do OT, but wasn't completely sure about committing to 2 years plus the 4 years of undergad. work... This is amazing timing as I was telling Pat that I was sick of entry level jobs, and thought I should get my B.S. I have heard a lot about recreational therapy and am interested in that field. This job will provide me the opportunity to be hands on in making a solid decision of my future. This is a non-profit company that is currently seeking more grants to get my position full-time. The more I give and better I do, the better chance of getting the grant!

I won't hear back from the Special Olympics position until next week, so I just moved on this one. I have a couple of other flexible part-time options I can do until this opens up to full-time. I start on Thursday and will keep you posted!

Congratulations, Becki! It sounds like it will be a great place to work and a wonderful step on your road to discovering what you want to do in the future. If only more of us were able to experiment before choosing a college degree when we were too young to know any better!

Yeah that's for sure. So far I'm $30,000 in the hole and still don't have a degree! That's 2 years of Augie and 2 years of SDSU/USD. I've even paid about $2000 off already too!

Congrats on the job and the smart moves!

Today was my first day and it was ooooh so interesting...like nothing I have ever done before. There is a lady there that is 34 years old, has a 15 month baby, and had a stroke right after she had him. There are a lot of sweet old people there, too. Particularly one white haired skinny man who is from Dublin...I heart his accent. Almost all of them have one side that is effected...and the biggest spirits I have seen. Most of them smile and laugh while trying there hardest to work through this onset disability.

Honestly, I don't know if I could be so positive while working through any sort of disability, which brings such profound life change. This is just another reason to be healthy now and live each day to its fullest!

I am so excited for you! I hadn't heard the big news until I just read it tonight! Congratulations!! I don't know how well your camping plans are going to work out from the sounds of things? Last I heard we are supposed to get 12-18 inches?? What is up with this place? Let's just move back to SD now! The weather can't be any crazier there than it is here!

I am sure you will find this a very rewarding job. It is such hard work to come back but they are so willing to do it. I hear you guys are in for a blizzard today. We had almost 8 inches of snow but it was nice emough it is not staying for very long. Good luck with your work and week end!!
